I just switched to a swept drag star and handle on my Alphas Ito 103L.  I thought I swapped everything properly, but when I adjust the drag star, the handle becomes loose.  Did I miss swapping a part, or put the drag star on too far or not enough, or something else?  I haven't had this problem with other reels in the past.

Make sure the drag star is seated all the way down on the main shaft then tighten the handle nut. 

Do you have a flat washer under the handle that sits on the step of the shaft?

 

Every casting reel I have has one. I believe it gives a more confident stop for the handle to seat against.

What kind of swept star drag and handle? did you install handle collar on top of drag star. To install screw in type star drag better to screw in all the way before install handle. Make sure you wrench the nut tight enough and install nut retainer(cap). The collar on top of drag star that sit on top of groove will give you length to move drag star in-out and secure handle to the shaft.

Not all bent drag star would work with old Daiwa due to short shaft length.
