Newbie here... I wandered across this forum while trying to research a lure online. I figured if anybody knew the answer, this would be the place. I've bass fished throughout the Carolinas over the past 60+ years, inheriting a love of top water fishing from my father. His favorite plug was a Paw Paw, but I fell in love with Pop-R's from the time they were introduced.  I am not a collector in the true sense, but I have collected too many tackle boxes and too many lures over the years to know what's inside most of them. But enough about me...

 

While digging thru an old tackle box, I came across several Pop-R's I didn't remember I had. To my surprise, one of these has a distinct noise chamber with what sounds like a couple ball bearings. It's the classic P60 Pop-R, 1/4 oz and 2 1/2" long. It is most definitely not the larger P70/P71 model which has a rattle chamber. It also has Rebel Pop-R embossed into the plastic near the tail of the bait.

 

I don't recall Rebel ever making a Rattling Pop-R, and I cannot find anything at all on their website or anywhere else on the Internet. I found one Google reference to a P60R, but the webpage it linked to was no longer available. I had two very good days of fishing with it before I got to wondering about it, and now I'm scared to fish it, worried I may lose the last of a generation.

 

Does anybody remember a Rattling version of the P60 Pop-R? Thanks for your help.

You came to the right place. @whitwolf is an expert in this department. 

It's not a design thing, it's a changing production run thing, more than most lures, depending on where and when you buy (bought) a classic Pop-R, it will be very different than others. Along with the varying size and number of bbs, the plastic, finish, and texture will all  vary, not to mention the balance and floating attitude. Been through that rabbit hole, and stole the caterpillar's ******...

Thanks for the feedback. I cannot believe this one would not have been a different model, even if for a small test market. Most Pop-R's I have from around the same time have no internal rattle at all. Maybe a few sound like something loose. This one has a rattler similar to a Zara Spook. It's hard for me to imagine it's a production run thing. 'Course, I've been wrong before... ?

Other than manufacturing errors, silent Pop-Rs are like unicorns.
