I'm looking to purchase my first NRX spinning rod and want something that's very versatile.  TIA....Randy

842S hands down. 

Agreed I have a Conquest 842S and a few NRX+ spinning rods of all them the 842S is the most versatile because it is a F and not XF action but my favorite is the 852S.  842S casts further thatn 852 and handles lighter baits and trebles a bit better for me than the others. 

Thanks guys for the replies.  I am hoping to try one out prior to purchasing.  I have a few SC Legend Elite's and I do not know how much better it can get but I've always heard that the NRX+ is the pinnacle in rods so I want to see if I'm missing out.

I love the NRX+ rods I still own. Key word is “still”. I’ve turned and burned through 5 models of the NRX+ line this year to get a feel for “what I was missing.” 
 

The reality is at that price point you’re splitting hairs. While the NRX might be .01% more sensitive than a legend elite, it costs twice as much. If you’re an enthusiast and the cost doesn’t matter, take the plunge. Just be aware your socks won’t be blown off. 
 

If you’re set on the NRX or Conquest lines I can’t make a solid recommendation for a versatile spinning rod. I’ve only fished the 852/872 and those sticks are very fast tips. From what I gather the Conquest lines are softer as they are all MBR like tapers.

The good with NRX rods:

They retain their value well if you don’t pay list…you can get discounts but you have to ask.  I have sold a number of NRX rods for ~$50 less than I paid after several years of use but I do take very good care of them and don’t pay list.

If you are patient, you can find good deals on used rods that look unused, especially now when the economy sucks and $ are tight.  Most people who spend that kind on $ on rods take care of them.

IMO, they are the top of the line mass produced (non custom) rods on the market (Conquests are excellent but I prefer NRX).
 

The bad with NRX rods for your stated need:

They are not the most versatile rods…there are others that have wider applications.  IMO, it’s a trade off because if you stay in the NRX wheelhouse, they are tough to beat.

 

Also know that the upper weight ratings on Loomis rods tend to be on the lower side.  They can comfortably handle weights slightly above their listed ratings.

 

My favorite spinning is the 852…number 2 is the 822 DSR but I wouldn’t consider either a super versatile rod.  I can’t speak to SC because I have limited experience.
