Hi all,
I am looking for a short swimbait rod that would allow me to throw 6-9 inch softbait swimbaits. Focus would be on the 7-8 inch type (8'' Huddleston).

I would love to stay under the 7'5 length (if possible).

I have the 7' Heavy, 1-4oz, bought this for similar purpose what you had in mind. I had more in mind for up to 4oz topwater lures and a length not too cumbersome trying to cast at a park lake.

Thanks for the suggestion. This seems like a good entry level rod. 

I am probably looking for a rod that is in the 200-350 USD price range.

Ok, not too many options but like a short musky rod

This won't be a huge help because I don't have a specific recommendation, but I would be looking at JDM rods. They generally prefer shorter rods than we do and I've definitely seen swimbait rods in the 7'-7'4" range. 

Hudd 8” swimbaits are 4 1/2 fishes heavy when wet and you need a rod rated 2-8 oz imo.

Using a XH Irod Gen 3 blank a rod 7’5” is possible within your budget.

Do you need it short for casting or for transport? If for transport, some makers like irod have removable handles on their longer rods.

Good question! It's more for convenience. 

 

I think that I probably will not be happy with he balance or the power of the shorter rods. So might need to get a longer rod after all ?

IRG794SB gen 3 is 7’9” and handle comes off. if I was buying a new swimbait rod this is it!

Yeah, I thought about this rod as well.

Ended up ordering a Dobyns 807. I prefer the full handle a bit more of the Dobyns and the warranty is also better imo, which might come in handy, since I will be using this rod for some rock fish fishing as well.

Thats jdm territory.  Look there and you'll find a short swimbajt rod.  They have many shorter awimbait rods to choose from.
