I just got a slammer deal on a certain social media marketplace. Four older (cork/cork split grips) St. Croix BassX casting rods for $190 total. Here they are, along with how I'm planning to set them up and their primary use:

 

7'1" Med/Heavy Fast - 15lb YoZuri (heavy spinnerbaits)

7'1" Med/Heavy Fast - 40lb Suffix braid with leader (jigs & heavy texas rigs) 

7'4" Heavy Fast - 50lb Suffix braid (frogs & toads)

7'11" Heavy Mod Fast - unsure what line to use (deep cranking & umbrella rigs)  

 

Questions:

- What do you guys think? Is this how you would use these rods? 

- What line would you use on the 7'11" for deep cranking and a-rigs? I'd probably use 14lb fluorocarbon for the deep crankbaits, but that's probably too light for an a-rig. Maybe I could throw a-rigs with the 7'4" heavy with braid? 

- What else would you use the 7'11" rod for?

40# braid on the 7'11". That's what I run and it allows me to straighten hooks out and get my snagged rig back. It'll also work well for pitching heavy cover with braid.

Sweet deal! I like the older bass x rods a lot. I’ve used my 7’1” mh for pretty much anything in its weight range. The 7’4” H is great for frogs/punching/big jigs/a-rigs like a yum flash mob jr. I do not have experience with the 7’11” H in bass x but I have used the mojo bass, it would be great for monster deep divers and big a-rigs/swim baits.

Anyone else have thoughts on usage? Am I right to use braid/leader for the jig and t-rig rod? That’s what I use on my spinning setups, but never tried it on a bait caster before.
