Anybody here can school me on Impellers?

Featured Replies

I replaced the impeller and housing on my boat very easily the first time I tried it. I consider myself very handy with tools and my hands though. I would suggest checking out the posts on iboats.com forum for advice on your particular motor and watch some videos on youtube.com.

It's easy....$600 to do that job is highway robbery.

There are several youtube videos showing exactly how to do it.  Just take care when removing the lower unit...it can be a little sticky. Also pay attention to the direction the impeller blades are formed within the cyclinder, and make sure you put the new impeller in the same way.

I did my buddy's 60 horse merc 2007  and let me tell you never again that shift rod is a ***** to get that cotter pin back in i finally had to pull the carbs so if i had to do it again i would charge a couple hundred bucks to do it  >:D

I guess it depends on the age, brand and size of the motor. Sometimes the bolts are corroded and break.

I tried to change one on a 1979 140 Evinrude and I could not get the shift lever to disengage. I ended up bringing the partially disassembled motor to the repair shop.

On my current boat, it has a Mercury 150 and it is really easy. It came apart and went back together with little trouble. Make sure the impeller blade is slightly lubed and the blades are installed bent in the direction that it came apart.

Yep those V6 mercs are a walk in the park I don't know why they didn't keep that setup on all there motors

price depends on whether its just impeller and or whole kit and lower unit oil.  they can easy for the most part, but get the shifter out of time and ur in for a fight.
