With todays Doppler radar meteorologist can see approaching low and high pressure systems days before they arrive making forecasting fairly accurate.

All we need to know is available in advance.

Low pressure systems spin counter clockwise lifting the air mass creating clouds and moisture (pre front). High pressure is the opposite rotating clockwise pressing air mass downward. The area in between (post front) creates winds clearing clouds.

Low  pressure is generally positive for fishing whereas high pressure is negative due to wind and bright clearing sky.

Severe low pressure is a hurricane very dangerous whereas severe high pressure creates high winds also very dangerous.
