Daiwa reels

Featured Replies

Trying to educate myself here, why are there so many different reel models? I have a few Tatula SV TW's, and I want to get a few more reels. I'm looking at an Alphas SV, a Zillion SV, and a Tatula TW 80. I don't know what each reel is better suited for, as far as use. Just looking for ideas and input. Thanks.

Oh yeah, just about all my rods are Dobyns.

The alphas and zillion are better suited for being nice things.  The tatulas are better suited at being cheaper workhorse things.  The tatula 80 in particular is a simplified alphas without the sv spool or decadent double pinion support

If you want solid targeted feedback, it would help to know specifically what it is that you are wanting to do, how you like to fish, baits you want to throw, line size/type, capacity, conditions in the bodies of water, etc.

LOL!! ??

They do offer a lot of different options! Here is my take on things:

I see the Zillion as an upgraded Tat SV TW. Frame is slightly smaller and lighter. I believe the Zillion has an aluminum handle side plate the Tat doesn't. Zillion also has the free floating spool.

As for Alphas SV and Tat 80, I think the same improvements are in place on the Alphas over the Tat 80. Alphas has SV spool and is free floating while the Tat 80 has a spool shaft that goes through the pinion.

If the smaller frame is desired, I would xhoose the JDM offered Alphas over the Tat 80 given the benefit of a good exchange rate, i think you can still buy the JDM Alphas cheaper than the US marketed Tat 80.

In my opinion, the JDM Zillion at today's echange rates makes it a better deal than the Tat SVTW

Daiwa has made their offerings really confusing for the unabashed Daiwa user. They are still running the Lexa series, they have their Korean models made in the doyo factory and they swap out frames and other parts between series'.

The older 100 model Tatula is the same size reel that is now a 150 size. They have two sizes of Tatula SV's...their marketing team needs to do better.

If you’re on a budget - Tatula 100

If not on a budget - Zillion Sv or Tatula Elite

If wanting a smaller profile - Alphas

If you’re a baller - Steez

Thanks, I think I'm gonna try a Zillion. Now waiting for another Dobyns sale. Got my eye on a DC 610 4c for docks dishing swimbaits. I think I read Dobyns wasn't coming to the Classic in Knoxville?

Per the latest sale thread.  Onmia has the tatula sv on sale (30% off) with marchsv code.  And you get a huk hoodie.   Just saying?
