Thought today would be the ideal day with cold front and bluebird skies.

The wind made it a little tough to detect bites but the rig produced.

If I had a single complaint, all the bass were juvenile with one large bluegill.

I'll be throwing it again.

I mojo'd a lot in the 90s.  Migrated to that from split shotting.  4 inch worms and the small Zoom brush hogs were my my choices on the business end.  The weight back then was pegged with strands of living rubber, a bobber stop is certainly easier and faster to rig.  It does tend to be a numbers bait but on a tough bite or hammered water you can catch better quality fish.  I've never broken 4lb with it but have had quite a few high 3's.

Back when I was fishing tournaments, the Mojo Rig was relatively unknown.  At the time it was somewhat of a secret technique among professional anglers.   It produces fish under the toughest of conditions.   Florida cold fronts shut down bass like nothing I have ever seen.  Gin clear water makes for tough fishing.  A Mojo rig is made for those conditions.  I have won tournaments with a Mojo Rig where no one else caught a fish.  One I particularly remember was in Rodman Reservoir in the dead of winter.  The water was in the 40s and the wind was blowing.  Slow crawling a 4" Mojo rigged Zoom lizard got me a limit when nearly everyone else in our club zeroed.  My best results came using 8 pound light green Maxima mono line and a 1/4 oz. Mojo weight with rubber strands holding it in place.  The bites were so soft I didn't know I had a fish until I saw it on the side of the boat.

 

Would I use a Mojo Rig all the time?  No.  It's a specialty rig for tough conditions.   In a small lake with a lot of fishing pressure, it may be your best option.  I have caught a few large fish with a Mojo Rig, but mostly it's a numbers bait.

I use the split shot rig a lot in the summer when the bite gets tough around here.  About the only time I don't bring the rig with me is when the wind is going to be blowing hard.
