Planning to upgrade the reel on my dedicated jerkbait setup — Powell Max 695 CB that currently has a Lew’s Mark Rose Signature Series 7.5:1 I had laying around without a home. I went on a bit of a Daiwa shopping spree when I saw the sales at a recent outdoor show, so I am trying to decide between two new options for this rig. 
 

1. Daiwa Tatula CT 8.1:1

2. Daiwa Tatula SV TW103 8.1:1

 

I like the lighter weight of the 103, but I like the extra 3 inches per turn I’d get from the CT… they both feel/look great on the rod. Just wondering which one you guys would choose and why ??‍♂️ Help me make my final decision lol. Thanks in advance everyone!! ??

Tatula ct.  It has magforce z instead of sv.  The sv braking profile is great if you want to cast and skip baits to targets.  Best in the biz.  Throwing baits on open water using a crank bait rod?  Magforce z is better here imo.  Save the tatula sv for a jig and plastics rod.

This was part of my thinking too. I’ve been eyeing a few Champ XP models from Dobyns and the 744 “Jig Rod Special” is on my list. The SV would probably be a better fit for that setup ??‍♂️

My primary jerkbaits are smaller, X Nanahan, Oneten Jr, Pointer 78, etc. As such, I use the Tatula Elite 6'9" ML casting rod with an Alphas CT SV 70SH with 8lb fluoro in colder water, but will be on 20lb braid to a 10lb fluoro leader on the same reel. I can sling baits to 1/2oz comfortably on this setup. 

My jerkbaits are 1/2oz Vision 110s. Throw them on a Dobyns Kadens 610-4cb jerkbait rod, 12lb fc. 
 

SV for me. I have the Tat limited sv 7.1 on mine. 

Are you locked on Daiwa reels? If so, then I would go with the CT. It does better than the SV for that in my opinion.

 

If not,... Then I personally like my Shimano reels for throwing things like jerkbaits, flukes, or anything I want distance.

 

Don't get me wrong,... I like my Daiwa and have far more than any other brand, but I have found the Shimanos cast farther with less effort. Especially the MGL reels like the SLX MGL or the Curado MGLs.

 

Both are in your price range.
