Casting reel help!!

Featured Replies

So i have an ugly stik 6'6 casting rod atm. I wanted another casting rod and was looking at the 7'3 13fishing blackout rod that was $20 even though it is usually $80. However I was also looking at the st croix mojo bass rod in either the 7'1 or the 7'10 size as it is going for $98 which is $70 off the usual price. I fish from the bank a lot and would like at least one rod that can cast far and throw heavy topwater lures. Do yall think I should order the 7'10 st croix and the 7,'3 13 fishing rod?

Generally speaking longer rods cast further.  However , Since you’re a bank caster I’d go for the 7ish foot rods over the 7’10”.   Usually there isn’t a lot of space to cast long rods from the bank.

Bargains are usually a waste of money. The exceptions are last years good fishing products being closed out for this years latest and greatest.

Go back and read reviews on the products of interest.

Shore a longer rod requires more casting space. A well balanced 7’ 3” crank bait rod with a good casting reel is a good choice. You are the caster not the rod and reel.

Easy.  Get the 7'1" Mojo Bass.  That is a very decent rod,  at a price you aren't likely to see again.

What you gain in distance you lose in accuracy and to some extent ergonomics.  Youre not gaining 7" in length by going from a 7'3-7'10, as the real seat is going to be at least a few inches higher due to a longer handle.  I would go with the 7'1 Mojo.  I wouldn't be surprised if you see the new gen of Mojo bass on clearance within a year.  SC really took a gamble and made the new ones with a triangular shape grip.  A few companies have tried them before with heavier SW jigging and popping rods and while they feel nice in the hand just picking them up, actually fighting fish is a different story.

For bank fishing bass, 7'10 is way to long. 7'1~7'3 would be the limit. On the other hand, the Blackout series is surprisingly good for its price.

thread title is about REELS?

i would go with something closer to 7 foot for shore fishing..unless that shore is a beach.

I would probably buy the 7’1 Mojo Bass. They are solid rods for the price, and unless you have no trees nearby and no low hanging telephone wires the 7’1” is much more manageable.
