How will this rod work for just walking the bank taking one rod mainly throwing 1/4oz poppers, small finesse worms, keitech swing impact on 1/8oz jighead and strike king mini 1/8oz soinnerbaits

You should be fine with those lures on a 702.

My concern would be putting a heavy plastic on the jig...but the Swing Impacts up to the 4" wouldn't overload the rod...if you use a Fat Impact, I'd keep it to the 3.8...the 4.8 is a bit heavy.

I use regular 4” swing impact and 4” easy shiner exclusively

You'll be fine with those two.

My only concern was the popper may be too heavy?

It definitely won’t be too heavy, the sweet spot on the rod is 1/4 or 3/8 + plastic. I’ve fished 1 oz bucktails in saltwater on the 702 with no problem.

As far as I’m concerned, a Dobyns 2 power isn’t good for much of anything. I have a Champ 732 and never use it.

I use the 733 for 1/8 jigheads and above and it works great. Their spinning rods are rated alot like their baitcasters. A Medium (3 power) is really a Medium Light.

The Dobyns 2 power spinning rods are really wimpy. I find the 3 powers to be much better. They're more like something between a 702 and 703. Like a ML+. They perform a lot better for me - my opinion.

i've got that rod and use it for river/stream fishing with very little vegetation to deal with , chunk rock mainly. the baits you mention are fine but for any grass or pads i'd want a little more backbone with a 3(med) being my choice for a pond/lake that at least had some open water.
