I ordered the daiwa airity 2500 for an ultralight setup to catch some Sunnys and such. 

 

After doing more research it looks like the airity could actually be used for some higher weight stuff as well. 

 

I thought of also using a nice shaky setup for the bass in the lakes by my house. 

 

Does it seem like a good match for Shakey setup?

A 2500 reel is pretty typical for a Medium power bass rig - wacky, shakey, Neko, weightless plastics (flukes, paddletails, worms.

 

For an ultra-light or even a light setup - I prefer 1000 size reels....current crappie rigs I have.

Pflueger President 25 (1000 size reel) on an Okuma Celilo 7'6" UL/F

Mitchell Avocet RZT-1000 on a Dobyns Fury 702SF (7'0" ML/F)

 

For my finesse bass rigs I have

Shimano Miravel 1000 on a Daiwa Procyon 7'0" L/F

Shimano Ultegra 1000 on a St Croix Mojo Bass 6'10" ML/XF

Hmm. I got the airity for the ultralight primarily and was thought of using it elsewhere. 

 

Shoot. I guess I should have researched better or posted before hand because I already bought the airity. 

Everyone fishes differently. If you’re happy using a 2500 for panfish so be it, I much like MN Fisher prefer 1000 size reels and light powered rods but it doesn’t mean you can’t use the setup you’re referring to. I just recently bought a Daiwa B&G 1500 for panfish/pond bass and absolutely love it with 6 pound monofilament. Although I’m not familiar with either the rod or the reel I say go enjoy?

I only fish ultralight. No bait over 6 grams. Everyone’s different, but I prefer a 500 size reel with 2 or 4 pound line. 

I see nothing your with your choice of reel for your UL rig. If anything, the 2500’s larger spool size might give you slightly longer casts for the same effort. The only “downside” I can think of is that a 2500 sized spool can hold a lot of 4# mono or 10# braid such that you might want to consider filling a portion the spool with a backing. For example, a typical filler spool of 10# braid is probably 150 yards. You’re going to probably need more than one filler spool to fill your 2500 sized spool. 

 

That is the plus With a smaller sized reel.
 

That said one of my UL reels is a 2000 sized reel and I’m glad it’s that size. 4-6# mono is what I generally use.  

Congrats on the beautiful combo! That should be a very versatile finesse setup and handle 1/4oz shakey heads with no problem. Lots of people prefer 2500 size finesse reels for better line management, so I wouldn't be concerned about that presuming it balances well.

i just checked the tracking. who am i kidding, i check the tracking multiple times a day, every day...

 

anyway, i just checked the tracking and it says the reel and the ultralight rod are on the truck for delivery, but still has tomorrow's date. not sure if it will come today or tomorrow, but I will keep an eye out for it. the rod mentioned in the first post hasnt yet shipped. 

 

this has to be the last order i make this year, my wife is going to have a fit

2500 is the do it all size, and with the weight it should work fine for UL.  500 and 1000 are nice, but the line pickup and casting distance is limited with the small spool. 

The advantage Daiwas have over other reels is the size of their gear relative to reel size.  A 2500 Daiwa LT has a gear thats just a hair smaller then most main gears in 4000 size reels the MQ frames allow for a larger gear then the LTs.  

the packages arrived. the daiwa airity is so light weight, so smooth running.  i love it. it might actually be my very best reel i own. i put on 8 pound braid, with 2 pound mono filler at the bottom to save on the braid.  what is neat, i dont think i have seen it before, the reel has a little notch for where you put the knot so it will line up right. its really cool. 

 

the ultra light rod also came in, and that a nice feel to it as well. i think it will be paired really well together. 

I am really looking forward to getting the light rod in as well for the shakey setup to use with this reel as well. 

 

surprisingly, i ordered ultralight jigs and plastics on the same day and they still have not shipped, yet the stuff from japan is already here.

 

i am going to have to run to the store and buy something because i dont have anything for ultralight, i assumed they would have arrived...anyway, i wont harp anymore.
