Not sure what my new rod should be used for….

Featured Replies

Hey y’all! Been having a rough time trying to research what purpose my new rod would best be suited for. I’ve been searching for days but can’t find a purpose for a 7’5 St.Croix victory rod Medium heavy with a fast action. Only rod I can find info for is the 7’3 model. Any help or tips for what I should be throwing on it would be greatly appreciated. Also to add, I have a Shimano MGL 150Hg reel with a 7.4 ration (I think) Cheers!

Same as any other medium heavy rod, Carolina rigs, small swimbaits, flipping, jigs, etc. Adding 2 inches to a rod isn't going to change that much

Most of my rods are 6’10” to 7’4” MH and can be used for darn near anything. There was a time when I didn’t know the difference between a fast action and a moderate action and I just fished and didn’t pay much attention to whether it was a Medium or a Medium Heavy. I just fished! I used to fish for catfish with a 1oz barrel weight using a 6’ ML spinning rod and never realized that the rod wasn’t meant for that. I caught fish and had a ball. Just fish - you’ll figure it out.

Give St Croix a call and ask what the Max Marshall was designed for! MHF with 3/8-1 oz lure rating sounds fairly universal to me.

spinnerbaits, paddle tails, topwater plugs, worms, jigs, swim jig, plastics.
