Hey guys first post here. I recently am getting into jigs. I bought a Victory full contact finesse 7'3" HXF. It's kinda weird as it feels not the same but pretty similar to a MHM. I don't know enough about jigging to know if this is a perfect jig rod (3/8-3/4). 

 

I actually was going to get one more Victory. What's the best all around jig rod they have? And what other Victory rod would you suggest l get to compliment this one? (I was thinking the flip'n or the grunt but maybe you have a better idea?)

 

These rods seem to have a very long soft tip that comes in really abruptly to the backbone (which is nice) but is that what l want for jigs?

To expand...  the 73Hxf is a great dragging rod.  Pitching jigs and whatnot is a place for the 74Hf

You can exchange the VTC73HXF for VTS 74HF rated 3/8-1 1/2 oz lures. Call St Croix Customer Service, I believe they still have $35 fee?

I have the victory 7’3” HXF. To me it feels like a strong MH. It’s a good all arounder as well as jigs, plenty sensitive to me. The 7’4” H is a rod a use for heavy frogging and flipping/punching. But I like to fish braid on a lot of setups and prefer a bit softer rod for jigs/t rigs anyway.

Thank you guys all for the help! I've been out of bassin for about 15 years and really enjoying getting back into it. Come to find out, I've always primarily been a finesse guy so jigging is very different for me. 

 

I'm not sure if I should start a new thread about this, but it seems I should just put it here. 

 

I ended up picking up a victory 74HF. Now I have the 74HF Full Contact and the 73HXF Full Contact Finesse. It seems to me if nothing else just by name. These were made to be a one two pairing for jigging.

 

The HXF full contact finesse I'm thinking is a bit too soft in the tip for half ounce jigs. I've just missed a ton of fish. But it casts amazing and I'm super accurate. The full contact HF thought I picked up thinking I would solve the problem seems like it would be great but I'm still missing a bunch of fish and I'm not nearly as accurate with it. I have yet to land a hook set with the lighter one and have landed a few with the heavier. But the strange thing to me is when I do land them with the heavier one they have pretty good rips in the lips. 

 

So basically I'm really confused. My gut said being a stereotypical finesse fisherman I wasn't jacking them hard enough on the hook set because I either wasn't hooking them or they were coming off close to the boat. But then when I did land them with rips in their lip it seems like it's too hard. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. 

 

I feel like maybe I should have gotten a MHF? Or am I doing something wrong? 

Don’t rely on the rod totally for hook sets instead use a combination of reel set by turning the handle fast and firm rod sweep that move more line generating more force to the jig hook.

You didn't mention the reel or line being used??

Also check your jig hook sharpness!

Curado reel, with braid to flouro on the heavy and straight copoly 12# on the other lighter one. 

 

What is this St Croix exchange policy?

I agree. Also, put a bit of pressure on the fish, just pull into them lightly, sometimes they will really clamp down onto that jig and get it even better. Then take up slack and reel/pull all in one motion, and keep reeling.
