What size tip for my Casting Rod?

Featured Replies

The insert in the tip guide finally broke. Time for a new tip.

Any idea what size I should order for this old Cabela's casting rod? Purchased new in 1994...

Cabela's -- C44x CDH 704T    7'    M-Heavy 10-25, 3/8-1 oz.

Suggestions on brand and place to order would be greatly appreciated!

Tip tops are sized by the ceramic ring and the ID of the tube.  The ceramic ring you probably want a #5 unless you're running bigger leader knots.  The ID of the tube is probably a 5 or 6 (that's in 64ths) but the best bet is to order a couple different sizes and see.  If you have a caliper or micrometer you could measure just behind it to get close.  I doubt Cabelas will be able to tell you what it is.  I assume you're not putting titanuium replacements on, so just order a set from 4.5 to 6.5 (0.5 increments) for $2.5 each or so and be done with it.

Mudhole is a good choice for a retailer.  I'd just get some Fuji all purpose.
