Pattern Fishing

Yeah I dunno, just been my observation.  On ponds they're almost anywhere.  The shallower the pond, I would think the more dramatic this would be and I fish very very shallow 5 acre ponds.   On lakes they're usually in their spots.  At least in my microcosm of the universe.  Basically I think, as with many things, there's always different ways it can play out.

I would think with perhaps more consistently clear ponds with some deeper spots, they'd be easier to locate..... sometimes.

But yeah on this pond the fish are very very nomadic and the only 'pattern' to it is the bait fish.

  • Every time a bass fisherman (or any type of fisherman) throws a line they’re pattern fishing.  You know what you have tied on, You know where you threw it, You know how you presented it.

Bass are not like bees, or ants working together as a group, all doing the same thing at once. Not all bass will be doing the same thing at the same time.  Same thing can be said about people.  W

I am with Rick Clunn on this one. I fish two lakes, primarily for the last 10 years and have come to approach it  Exactly that way as the seasons change. They are completely different, but the patterns remain the same as the seasons change and the fish go through their yearly evolution. Rick Clunn was the goat of the 70s and I highly admire his accomplishments for those that are interested here are some:

Clunn has won the Bassmaster Classic tournament four times, in 1976, 1977, 1984, and 1990, tying him with Kevin Van Dam for the most Bassmaster Classic wins.[1] Clunn is considered one of the best anglers of all time, having placed in the top 10 in over 100 tournaments, and winning seventeen of those. In 1988, he was voted Angler of the Year by the B.A.S.S. organization. In 2001, he was inducted into the Bass Fishing Hall of Fame.
