Unknown rod

Featured Replies

Hi folks, I recently found a spinning rod and am trying and failing to find any information about it. Theres no branding on it, the only words printed on it are "9902 7'4" silver king coho boat spinning made in USA". It is silver gray with 5 BGB style line guides. The hardware to attach a reel is all metal and the rod itself (not the grips) is 5/8" at its widest. 1 Cork grip in front of reel and a almost 1.5ft wooden grip behind the reel. Any info on this rod would be excellent.

With those specs and solid glass I’d wager to say it was a back bouncing rod. Back bouncing is a cool technique like trolling in that you have divers near the bottom, usually with an egg sac attached, and you go downstream slower than the current. So the extra current acts like you are going against it and pulls the baits down while you slide down the river slowly. Usually with someone rowing slowly to slow you down. The clever bit is that if you get snagged you stop rowing and the diver floats up with the current you’re no longer pulling against. It’s precise presentation at whatever speed you want.

Probably not a stick I'd use for bass fishing.

Thank you for responding! That rod looks extremely similar with a few differences, my rod says the same stuff as the one you linked, but doesn't say that it's glass, and the rod tip is thinner and has a regular rod tip on it
