ABU question

Featured Replies

I am looking at possibly picking up one of these reels because everyone talks about how durable they are.  I am very tough on gear, rides in the back of the truck, gathers gravel dust, ends up in water or mud, I dont baby my equipment when in use.  I mainly fish ponds for bass so I dont need huge line capacities and prefer a gear ratio in the 6:1 range along with a reel that isnt extremely large to palm.  My question is what model of reel would I be looking for if there is an ABU product to match my needs.  I also am not looking for one of their new models as they arent proven.  Thanks in advance.

Abu Garcia 4600 C4   6.3:1

Line cap  10/170

Line recovery 30"

BPS  74.95

Great reel, you will be pleased. Also, if you are not too worried about gear ratio and want an all around reel check out the 4600 in the C3, Line recovery is 25"

Listen to Jim.  The 4600 is one of the best workhorse reels you'll find anywhere for under $100.

While the 4600 series is a great reel, it's not easy to palm, it's a narrow version of the larger 5500/5600 series reel.  If you mean you're looking for a low profile reel  and aren't interested in the Revo's then I say go with a Torno 3004.

WHAT JIM BLAIR SAID. THE 4600 REELS ARE GREAT.

What cart said.

<-----I love my Torno.

I agree with the 4600, I haven't had any problem palming them and I have average size hands.

I don't think it's going to take very long for these new Revos to "prove themselves". That said, I'll agree with the gang about the 4600. If you are particularly hard on your gear this may be the perfect reel for you. They are certainly tough as nails.

The new Revo's are awesome. They are smaller than most other low profile reels and are smooth as silk. Not sure about hauling them around in the back of a pickup truck though. They're much too purty for that.

Well Ill say that the rods take the majority of the beating.  I got 3 St. Croixs this past fall from Reeds and am interested as to how long they hold up.  Ive never busted a rod other than a tip(user error) so hopefully those prove to be worth the money.  I really like the low profile reels but I dont really palm a reel too much, and I dont have small hands so I doubt thats a problem.  I do like the 4600 c4 but I guess I am open to other opinions, not just ABU.  Budget is $100 or less, dont want to put money into something not knowing if it can handle being dropped in cow crap.  Thanks again.
