Daiwa Tatula SV TW 70 or Shimano Curado 70 MGL

Featured Replies

Trying to decide between these two reels. Will be for jerkbaits, poppers, and small squarebills. Want some small and easy to palm for these techniques so was thinking the 70s would be ideal but can’t decide.

I have both as well as the Tatula 80.

The Tatula 70 is more of a 50 sized spool in a 70 frame. The Tatula 80 is much more comparable to the Curado 70. The Tatula 70 & 80 are the same frame; very different spools.

I have used them all for Jerkbaits and settled on the Tatula 70 and run 10# fluoro to a 1/4 spool of 30# braid. Its a phenomenal jerkbait/finesse reel so long as you never intend to run heavier than 12# test.

Both would be OK.  With the type of lure you are going to be throwing, I prefer the Shimano with the MGL spool.  They work reel well with light lures that are somewhat wind resistant.
