Any good "burner" baitcasters under $100.00 ???

Featured Replies

I have always been a spinning reel guy, but would like to try a good-FAST- baitcaster. I have seen 7:1 ratio baitcasters, but they were $200. and more.

Any suggestions?

I would like to use it for flippin and for buzzbait fishing.

Thanks!

I just got the firsts off the Bass Pro 2007 master fishing catalog and BPS is going to have the extreme, pro qaulifier, johnny morris, and rick clunn in the burner model.  Most off the reels I just names are under 100$.  Also, the new extremes has 7 bearings rather than 5 and a stronger drag system.

You shouldn't want a 7.0:1 gear ratio for a buzzbait reel.  That gear ratio will be way to fast for a buzzbait.  The object of the buzzbait is to have it barely stay above the water, thus turning the crank slow for the most part.   Your buzzbait bait shouldn't be retrieved at warp speed back to the boat.

6:1 gear ratio would be fine for this technique.

Thanks for the input!

I have fished buzzbaits for many years and use them about 80% of all my bass fishing time. Today I caught 22 bass, while fishing with my 27 year old son, all on buzzbaits. You'd be surprised how fast a bass can swim! ;)

I consider a buzzbait a reaction lure, the less time a bass has to look it over, the more likely they are to eat it! :)

There certainly are times to fish them slow though. I LIKE FAST!!! :)

i have a bps extreme 7.1:1 and it is the first reel i had to slow with when i use a buzzbait. doug

NOPE!  ;D

60 miles from the new BPS store!!! Been there 3 x since it opened Nov 2nd  ;)

I agree with Maltese Falcon, buy the Abu Garcia 4600. The 30" line recovery is perfect for buzzbaits and it is a very reliable reel. Good luck.
