i lost one on the big o that was 10+. i know it was 10+ because i was going to lip it and bring it in the boat when we seen a dark shadow getting closer to the boat. about the time i relized what it was i jerked my arm back and a gator came about 2-3 foot out of the water and took fish,rod and reel with it. the guide we were with got mad because i let the rod go with and started yelling at me. it turned into a big deal and words went back an forth and it ended the trip. i guess he expected me to fight the gator over a $50-100 rod and reel. doug

i think it is bigger than ever and will keep getting bigger. as the money goes up and guys like ike bring attion to the sport it will only grow. doug

"Luke Clausen won both the BassMasterClassic and the FLW Championship this year." that is wrong he did not win the flw championship this year. doug

i see a lot of you saying it is ike because he is aoy if that is the only thing you are going by than it is a three way tie. ike, dianna clark wbt aoy and anthony gagliardi flw aoy. 95% of the names talked about are all from B.A.S.S. what about the other tours? doug

i did very well with the arrons magic for a couple weeks but then it seemed to stop working at all. it worked from upper end to lower end on cumberland but after about two weeks i couldnt buy a bite with one. doug

i like the sure set hooks on topwater or open water crankbaits. if you are going to be fishing any where near cover with a bait i would go with something else. doug

kvd still had a shot be it a small one for aoy and he was dq'ed in one tournament. i also went and looked at his (kvd) stats for 2006 and he was in the top 50 in all but the one tournament. ike had the dq in the classic and a dq last year also. if you talk all time you also have to toss in denny brauer who jumps back and forth with kvd for the all time money winner but for some reason gets left out most of the time. he wasnt the number one money winner because he wasnt constant. clausen is on a tear over the last 4yrs in big tournaments but if you look at his overall record he needs more wins. he won the classic, flw championship, a stren series tournament and the match fishing tv show. kvd is still the guy to beat at every b.a.s.s. tournament that is why he is number one. nobody in the flw rules the roost so to say that is why no of them should be in the top 5. even in the world rankings none of the flw guy are in the top 5 or 7. just my humble opinion but based on the facts. doug

i know most the stuff off tv is junk. having said that i have a buddy who 90% of the time would out fish all of us with the banjo minnow. he is and i hate to say a "god with the banjo". it got to a point where i was about to toss him and his one plano box full of banjo minnow in the water more than once. i could fish it for a year and never catch a thing but it is the only baits he buys. he doesnt own any other baits at all. he says " if they dont bite the banjo they dont bite at all". i alos know a guy who trolls the kick fish for stripers on cumberland and does very good with it. i think the two of them are the 1 out of 100 that it works for. doug

it is a great start to a tackle box. i would add a top water like a torpedo or devil horse. they dont take much to learn to fish it. me and my little girl who was 6 at the time wondered into a school of white bass. she was able to catch 20 or more in a couple hours with a torpedo and she had never used a lure before. doug

rolling thunder buzzbaits, jdc skip n pop, zara spook and just about any other top water bait that gives you a heart attack when you get a hit. doug

i use and work for lure tamer. unlike the canvas covers the hooks will not stick through. i like them when i have my kids on the boat so i dont have to worry about them stepping on them and getting a hook in the foot. i also carry extra and give them to co-anglers i draw to use while on my boat. keeps co-anglers from getting hooks in my seats and carpet. i also keep them on when i travel to keep the rods from getting tangled. in a tournament i start with them on and as the day goes by i leave them off the rods i am using but leave them on the rod stored away. doug

i have a bps extreme 7.1:1 and it is the first reel i had to slow with when i use a buzzbait. doug

just got my new bps order in which was great as always. the problem i have is the new plano boxes. i ordered two of the new flip sider one 3714 for jerk baits which works great and one 3744 for rat-l-traps. the 3744 is where the problem is. if you only put 1/4 oz or smaller it might work great but anything bigger dosent work well at all. anyone else try these out yet or have the same problem? doug

I am sure a lot of you have seen this but for those who have not seen it yet i will explain it. Others and I, Doug Cavin have started a kind of program for soldiers on leave or coming back from deployment. I want any of the soldiers who want a day on the lake to have a chance to do so. We as fisherman have a chance to do a good thing. Sign up and have a chance to take one out for a day of fishing and fun. I have found a site for you to go to and sign up for free and you will be able to be contacted by a soldier in your area. I have many contacts who will be sending this link to family support groups and will be sending the soldiers to this site. I need as many people to sign up as possible so no soldier gets left out. no he did not have insurance to cover the items taken or household good that were stolen. doug

yes i am hooking him up with items from all the compaines i work for. he is a pro-staff for several companies i work for and they are sending him some items also. doug

a buddy of mine had his house broke into and about 90% of his fishing and hunting(guns) stuff was taken. i am going to send him some stuff i have handy to give away and just wanted to see if any of you could pitch in. my thoughts were if i could get each person to send 1 bait it would help to get him back on his feet. he has only a couple rods and reels left which are broken rods and reels they didnt take and he said he may not be able to tournament fish next year if he cant get everything replaced by jan-feb. he had about $3000-5000 taken from him which was several years worth of investing in gear. if you would like to help out please let me know. doug lkcavin@yahoo.com
