Hypothetical- Say you’re heading to a body of water you have never been on. Conditions are pre-spawn, but getting close. You are limited to 3 spinning and 3 bait casting setups. What do you have tied on to start? Here are mine:
 

Spinning 1 - Senko

Spinning 2 - Ned

Spinning 3 - Drop Shot

 

Casting 1 - Swim jig

Casting 2 - Spinnerbait

Casting 3 - Texas Rig 

front of the boat or back of the boat?  How much and type of cover?

 

Generically for waters around here I'd have a chatterbait, a squarebill, and a spinnerbait on three casting rods.  I don't carry 3 spinning rods but given the question I'd have a wacky rig senko, a jerkbait, and a small swimbait (like a 2.8 or 3.3 keitech).  If you don't know the water, then you are trying to cover some water until you find fish.  I'm using moving baits for that with the two plastics as follow up baits.  If its a slow day, the fish are tight lipped, or its tough conditions (sunny, still, post frontal) then I'm probably dropping the spinnerbait for a texas rig or jig.  

If I have a ned or drop shot tied on in April, I am probably in a foul mood by that time.  One spinning rod on deck with a senko or fluke.

Baitcasters for chatterbait, lipless, t-rig, spinnerbait, 5-6 in swimbait, swim jig, buzzbait...to start.  Too many rods?  Nah....too few in the hypothetical
