I guess I need a trip to experience the St Lawrence.  I met a couple of guys today that recommend staying in Clayton and just fishing right around that area.

I'd take any tips and advice!

Probably be a late summer trip...smallies...deeper I assume at that time

Oh, I'd be bringing my boat and a buddy from Maine.

Probably do an air B&B

For me late summer is August, a really good mounth.  Lots of fish everywhere, shallow in current areas and deep in calm areas.  Shallow is 3-5  feet deep and deep is from 20 to 30.  Not too many people on the river during the week.  Do practice your Ned and dropshot. Drag a Carolina rig if you want to locate fish.  

Take a day to target largemouth.  

Summer on the St.Lawrence is good. Clayton is a good spot. August I would fish shallow around the islands or for bigger ones fish deeper where you find structure. I would recommend your first day there schedule a guide. What you will learn in one day would take you several trips. Good luck and keep us posted.

 

Whoa! I've always wanted to fish that river. I've also wanted to paddle it, source-to-sea. I'm excited for you. 

Watch your dates. Bass elites will be there aug 15-18. 

 

I did Champlain the week after a elite event once, shocking amount dead fish floating, and knew exactly where to go from watching them on tv. 

 

Just got back from Champlain Saturday, and was considering doing St Lawrence towards the end of summer too.

I fished the St Lawrence a few years back. It was pretty tough to access spots on the kayak, there was one small quiet bay and another larger one that I couldn't quite get to with the current. Eventually we drove to Goose Bay which is enclosed from the current. Pretty much all weeds and largemouth, spinnerbaits and T-Rigs work well if you try it. My profile picture was taken there.
