Kayak Trailer Rod Tubes?

Featured Replies

For those of you putting rod tubes on your kayak trailers, which tubes are you using?

I’d like to add 1-2 tubes to my Malone Ecolight trailer, but the ones that Malone sells are $240 each. There has to be a good, cheaper option out there.

Ive never used a Malone tube but that might not be a bad deal.

I went with 8 inch conduit, and a conduit locking kit for each.

They hold 6-8 rod and reels.

Pro's are they are lockable, and durable.

Cons it isnt cheap to build them yourselves unless you already have the conduit.

8-10” pvc is the usual solution. I still don’t like it and would rather have them in the cab but 10” pvc holds more rods than you can carry on the boat.

The one Malone is selling on their website is actually the Flambeau that retails for about $100 without the mounting hardware.

I bought the PVC at Home Depot ($90 each?). Plus the end cap kit ($70 each?) off of Amazon. Put a vinyl wrap around it and called ‘er good 👍

just get a ski rack and use sleeves and reel covers and be done.  I ran that on my trailer for a long time before I went to primarily fly fishing and i couldn't get enough spread between the racks for 9' fly rods but they aorked great for conventional
