Kistler Magnesiums vs. Helium LTAs

Featured Replies

I ordered a Kistler Magnesium crankbait rod from Gander Mountain a few days ago.  Interestingly, my buddy at the store recommended it over a Helium.  Thus far I have only used Heliums, but apparently the Magnesiums are so impressive that they're all I'm supposed to buy from now on.

For those who have used both, how do you think they compare?

I've got 2 Magnesiums and 4 Heliums. Seems to me that the Heliums are more true to the power ratings. The Magnesium MH feels like a M,the H feels like a MH etc. Both are extremely lightweight and extra sensitive. The Mags I have left I can deal with and will keep,I had to sell Mag H Flippin rod because the tip was too soft.

Other than the appearance (blank color, grips, guides) and the Magnesiums being a little soft tipped, the way each one fishes and the weight isnt much different in my opinion.

I hope you don 't get dissapointed like me when you pull the rod out of the tube and find out it 's as thick as a broomstick.

Interesting...I only have the Mg 6'9" APC baitcaster and I though it had a bit of a stiff tip.  I'm considering getting a Helium LTA 6'6" M...are you saying that rod will be similar in power to the Mg APC I already have?

Never held or used a MG from Kistler but I have several LTA Heliums and their Medium 7' caster is a great all-round rod.  No, it's tip isn't stiff.  Very forgiving, sensitive but powerful rod that has brought scores of Bass to the boat and the shore for me.

That 5 lber in the Outing forum I caught today was caught using that rod and I d/k if I would have felt the light tic that that Bass made when it struck the Pointer with another rod.  That Bass fought hard too. :D
