What do you guys think of DC reels? I have a 23 Met I'm very happy with and I'm considering another. I'm also thinking about the DC. I can't it would hurt to have a fool proof reel kicking around for windy days.

 

Do I need to set it up differently in the wind? Will it cast as far as a conventional Metanium in good conditions?

 

I guess a Zillion is also an option, though I've pretty much strayed away from Daiwa after buying a Tatula years ago.

 

 

I have two Curados. They’re good. I use them for jigs & trying to skip into tight spots.

 

I don’t notice a difference in distance when compared to conventional reels.

 

They control the spool nicely, but you still need a quick thumb to stop the bait as it hits the water or else it’ll bird nest quickly.

My thumbs are pretty good. I'm always using conventional baitcast reels. Just wondering about distance as I'm usually fishing from shore. That's helpful tha ks.

Start by reading Cadman’s post on this  page Met DC cleaning. Suggest PM asking your ?

IMO if you are good at casting non-DC reels the added cost may not be with it.

DC reels modulate the spool speed slightly reducing casting distance under normal conditions.

The rod used has more affect on casting into the wind.

Yeah, it's probably not worth the cost. I don't have any trouble with baitcasters, even in the wind, though I wish I could magically get more distance of a spinnerbait into the wind. Guess not even a computer can alter the laws of physics... might as well save the $$.

The 2020 Met frame is great, but i personally couldn't care less about DC itself. All it does is add weight to the spool because of the magnets. The DC is cool when you first get it, but after some months of use, the cool factor is completely gone and between the first conquest 200dc, conquest 50dc, 2015 met dc, met mg dc, calais dc and the 2017 scorpion dc that i've had, i am not seeing anything close to "dc outcasts everything, and is the best at fishing in the wind".

I would personally get the Zillion just so you understand why its the most popular mid range reel that is even sabotaging the higher end from daiwa and shimano.

i just purchased one from Digitaka. I used it twice and I like my regular metaniums better. This is my third attempt at using a DC reel and they are not for me..If you decide to get one I would sell you mine. Mine is rh 70 HG and Id take $310 shipped.

Thanks for the offer. Tbh, I think I'd be best with a non DC reel after reading through this thread and the one referenced above.
