Rubberized well nuts

I need to order some rubberized well nuts for mounting some new kayak accessories, but I do not know what is the appropriate size.  These will be used to mount yakattack style rail mounts.  Should I get M4...M5...etc?

 

Also, would it be better to mount these with waterproof rubberized rivets instead of well nuts?  And if so...what size?

    I use 3/16" aluminum rivets to mount anything to my kayaks.  I have to use longer handles on my rivet tool but they hold.

    Rivets hold securely but are a PITA to remove if it is needed. I'd guess that you'd need well nuts for a #10 machine screw.
