This are my favorites I have doubles of all except the 853C:

853C - All bottom contact 3/16 - 3/8 plus plastic
843C - 3/8 oz spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, finesse jig(Keitech/beastcoast football), swimbaits(paddletails ie keitechs 3.3-4.3), spoons, TX rigs, crankbaits(in a pinch I've throw deep divers during summer on it)
844C - 1/2 oz+ spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, jigs, swimbaits(magdrafts/bullshads), Carolina rigs(1/2 & 3/4), TX rigs

852S(my favorite)- wacky, neko, shaky head, free rig, dragging dropshots, light TX rigs, flukes
842S - Dropshot(dragging and dropping), neko, ned, free rig, crankbaits(shadrap 5/frittside JR/5), 2.8/3.3 keitechs, jerkbaits, small topwaters, flukes

For casting and dragging a nose hooked dropshot what would be your favorite?

Hard to beat that 842S for any dropshot work you do honestly.  If I'm dropping on fish below me I'd go 822S but dragging i'd stick with 842S.

Thanks! I have been enjoying it a lot for that. Probably will be upgrading my Vanford for an Excense on that rod. Do you think it’s stout enough for running a Texas rigged dropshot if I wanted to get it a bit more into the weeds? We don’t have much thick grass here but sometimes it’s just enough to want to run it Texas rigged. I usually use owner covershot (Non HD) and I just picked up some owner downshots to try out as well.

also, do you have any experience with the 852C JWR? I’ve yet to pick up a Medium baitcasting setup. I use my 873 for my jig work and legend extreme 71MHXF for weightless senkos and 1/4-3/8 oz Texas rigged soft plastics. My only medium casting rod is a expride 610mmf for jerkbaits but I hardly use it.

Talking about g loomis rods made by Gary loomis/pre shimano g loomis, as for imx/glx MBR/SJR/CR, the longest were 78inch (6ft6in) and had wiebe seat and pac bay guides. Gary did make slightly longer MBR in IM6 and Premiere series which were either telescopic or multi piece. 7ft glx/imx MBR models weren't released until transition period, very few had pac bay guide trains, first changes shimano made during transition period were to fuji guide trains, then fuji reel seats around 2003. So IMO if your pre shimano g loomis doesn't have wiebe seat and pac bay guides, it's not a pre shimano g loomis.

I've pulled bass out of weeds, laydowns, and brushpiles on dropshot with my 842S I have the utmost confidence in those rods lol.  I use the exact same hooks mostly covershots but fish the downshots as well as the the new BKK dropshot hooks.

I had a 852C I tried to like it but ultimately I sold it.  I felt if I'm going to fish a rod that soft might as well just fish a spinning rod.  I have a couple 852S models now.
