  1. Tatula elite over M1 any day. Better quality components and stronger blank. Coming from someone that worked at Phenix.
  2. That's pretty awesome. GLX 802C makes a great weightless fluke rod also. Flexible tip to cast and twitch, short rear grip for tip down and good backbone for hookset.
  3. While not significant, shorter usable blank will give better sensitivity given the same/comparable material, guides and action.
  4. Picked up a mint td-z 103h recently. Pairing it with Heartland Hayate 72 Type East for fast moving baits and etc.
  5. That's something we don't see often. Congrats!
  6. 893C was originally marketed as the senko rod. Tatula elite 75mh is similar to the 89C but slightly softer and bends a lil deeper. Johnston brothers fished loomis prior to signing with Daiwa, i remember reading somewhere 893C was one of their favorites.
  7. A2 has alloy main gear as well unless I'm missing something. Morethan PE TW has brass for 8 gear ratio, alloy for 7 gear ratio.
  8. What did you not like about it? I had an old glx 844 (wiebe seat) before and didn't care for it, tip was too soft and weird bend/transition. Curious what the others didn't like about GLX 844.
  9. I'll keep you posted when I do
  10. From what i understand, aluminum tube extension was purely for reel seat and handle. It was common for blanks being made short, think of pistol grip rods. When Larry Howard owned Phenix, he started selling rods made with modern style reel seats and longer straight cork/hypalon handle. They would get the same blanks, some went on pistol grips, some for reel seat/straight handle. Don't think there were any other reasons for it. At least that's how I understand it.
  11. Yea i said it appears to be solid, i guess i won't know for sure unless i cut it in half lol i have stripped and destroyed a plenty of phenix boron/vintage rods when i worked there and this is the only one like this. Eventually i want to replace the aluminum tube and build a casting rod eventually but i got a couple of other rods i want to finish first. Of course never enough time and the money....
  12. I worked for phenix. Cool AI search though.
  13. Yea hard to see but i used flashlight and ran a very thin wire through the lumen.
  14. Yea Phenix relied on outside sources for blanks, they did the assembly here in so cal back then. G Loomis provided them a few different blanks, IM6 Boron, 96% graphite and not sure what else. It has no mandrel lumen, the hole in the middle of tubular blank, only for a few inches from the butt and it closes. Nothing on the tip
  15. I just stripped an old vintage Phenix rod built on G Loomis blank (IM6 Boron Don Iovino splitshot) and it appears to be solid carbon, no mandrel lumen, no spine and heavy. I have seen a plenty of vintage Phenix boron rods but they are all tubular blanks. Does anyone know if G Loomis made any other solid carbon blanks in the 80s/early 90s? 20260311 145027 — Postimages
  16. It's the convenience of swapping spools according to your need and there are many to choose from, not just bfs/shallow type. 34mm are great all around for bass fishing applications.
  17. Yea shallow spool and SV Light offers a 9 gear ratio. I would just buy another 24 Steez instead too.
  18. Very nice. I'm aware its supposed to a flipping stick but it's rated MH+, wondering if it's a broom stick like 611MH
  19. Doesn't always have to be the latest and greatest, but fishing is more fun when you add new stuff to try out, makes me look forward to getting out on the water even more.
  20. Had an NRX 802 in spinning a long time ago, thoughts of trying a casting version resurfaced recently. Never owned a GLX BCR before and always had been intrigued by their styling. Excited to fish it this season, I'm in socal so we do a lot of slow dragging smaller size worms with light lines in super clear waters.
  21. I had been wanting a GLX BCR802 for some time, finally found one. Mint and local. Happy 2026!
  22. Very nice review. I have not fished the newer style GLX MBRs, only the old models with wiebe seats. I always tell myself if the 843 had the 783 tip, it would have been the perfect bass fishing rod, at least for me.
  23. Reel covers and try not to leave them upside down. Be careful with TW reel covers though. I have been using them for many years, heard about them bleeding onto reels with light paint, just happened to one my reels. It's always the strap part that wraps around the gearbox area.
  24. Just came back from spending some time with the Okuma X-series 73H i picked up from the sale. I probably wouldn't pay retail for one but for how much i got it for, I'm satisfied.
