Long Rods for shore fishing - and I mean LONG
Anything over 10ft is pretty d**n long for bass fishing. They have their time and places. The longest i have is 8ft 11inch and i use it for heavy carolina rig from shore certain time of the year. It is a lot of fun getting bit way out there with lots of lines out, reel in and hook set with a long rod.

Holy Molly! Zillion 50th Anniversary for sale
It's always some of the newbies that just find out about these older limited and Megabass reels that are willing to drop big bucks to " collect" and after the cool facts wear off, they turn around to pass the torch (flip them) to next newbies in line. This is just some phase that come and go and been going around for some time now. Megahype was pretty crazy in 2020 when everyone was getting covid checks though 😂 I understand the personal value of ownership of the old tackles but funny i remember when some of these reels (zillion 50, type R) were out and available at the time, all i could read were people whining about how they weren't worth the money and not better than the regular zillion. Cabelas zillion was the laughing stock, everyone trashed it for its ugly green paint. Funny how the perceptions change over the years

Picked up a Mangetoola from tacklewarehouse sale. Swapped some parts, will spool it with 18 or 20lb fluoro and go on a heavy carolina rig rod. 20260529 172114 — Postimages20260529 172159 — Postimages

Rod for Light T-Rigs and Jigs (3/16+ weight)
That's pretty awesome. GLX 802C makes a great weightless fluke rod also. Flexible tip to cast and twitch, short rear grip for tip down and good backbone for hookset.

For Finesse rods, do you feel that added length gives you more sensitivity and hook setting power?
While not significant, shorter usable blank will give better sensitivity given the same/comparable material, guides and action.

Picked up a mint td-z 103h recently. Pairing it with Heartland Hayate 72 Type East for fast moving baits and etc.

G. Loomis IMX Pro 893C JWR
893C was originally marketed as the senko rod. Tatula elite 75mh is similar to the 89C but slightly softer and bends a lil deeper. Johnston brothers fished loomis prior to signing with Daiwa, i remember reading somewhere 893C was one of their favorites.

Daiwa Baitcaster Compare and Contrast: Steez SV TW vs Steez A 100 vs Zillion SV TW
A2 has alloy main gear as well unless I'm missing something. Morethan PE TW has brass for 8 gear ratio, alloy for 7 gear ratio.

Loomis 844C MBR
What did you not like about it? I had an old glx 844 (wiebe seat) before and didn't care for it, tip was too soft and weird bend/transition. Curious what the others didn't like about GLX 844.

G Loomis solid carbon blank
From what i understand, aluminum tube extension was purely for reel seat and handle. It was common for blanks being made short, think of pistol grip rods. When Larry Howard owned Phenix, he started selling rods made with modern style reel seats and longer straight cork/hypalon handle. They would get the same blanks, some went on pistol grips, some for reel seat/straight handle. Don't think there were any other reasons for it. At least that's how I understand it.

G Loomis solid carbon blank
Yea i said it appears to be solid, i guess i won't know for sure unless i cut it in half lol i have stripped and destroyed a plenty of phenix boron/vintage rods when i worked there and this is the only one like this. Eventually i want to replace the aluminum tube and build a casting rod eventually but i got a couple of other rods i want to finish first. Of course never enough time and the money....

I worked for phenix. Cool AI search though.

Yea hard to see but i used flashlight and ran a very thin wire through the lumen.

G Loomis solid carbon blank
Yea Phenix relied on outside sources for blanks, they did the assembly here in so cal back then. G Loomis provided them a few different blanks, IM6 Boron, 96% graphite and not sure what else. It has no mandrel lumen, the hole in the middle of tubular blank, only for a few inches from the butt and it closes. Nothing on the tip

G Loomis solid carbon blank
I just stripped an old vintage Phenix rod built on G Loomis blank (IM6 Boron Don Iovino splitshot) and it appears to be solid carbon, no mandrel lumen, no spine and heavy. I have seen a plenty of vintage Phenix boron rods but they are all tubular blanks. Does anyone know if G Loomis made any other solid carbon blanks in the 80s/early 90s? 20260311 145027 — Postimages
