Are there special rods for ice fishing?

Featured Replies

I was just wondering about this after watching some clips of guys ice fishing and pulling muskies, large smallies and largemouths on rods that look like my crappie rod.  Are they just using UL or are there small rods with higher power ratings for ice fishing?

Thanks.

With 3.5 months left until bass season here in Minnesota, I can't help but think how nice it must be not having to know the answer to your question.  There are, indeed, special rods for ice fishing.

You should make a point of heading up north to try one in your life...  You'll be forever thankful when "winter" rolls around in NC.

Hey Bream master I dont ice fish but most of my friends do. A couple of them just bought the Pflueger Trion Ice Fishing Combo from Cabelas ROD and Reel 20 bucks you cant beat that here is the link:

Ice fishing rod ? now that 's a new one for me (  :) ), heven 't tried ice fishing with a rod and reel, somehow it seems difficult trying to ketch them ice cubes in the cooler with a rod ', reel n 'hook.  ;D

I would go to Reeds sporting goods website and the St. Croix ice fishing rods.  High quality rod with a good price.  And yes it is possible to bring in nice fish with a 2 ft rod.  Medium power is a good all around power for ice fishing.

No problem and you can cartch a mess of bream with that reel on a UL rod in the warmer seasons too! :)
