Baitcasting reel

Featured Replies

I need help. I'm looking for a baitcasting reel in the 100 size that has a tight spool tolerance. I want to be able to spool 6 lb mono or similar diameter braid without it getting trapped between the spool and housing. Right now I have a Piscifun Torrent II and it's ok.  I know bfs is an option but I'd rather keep things standard.

A Tatula 100 24 model from Japan would be around $115 ish and has aftermarket spools available.

Would probably be your best bet of getting BFS sized line? on a 100 sized reel.

Shimano Metanium shallow spool edition. It’s 100 size and it handles 6 pound line beautifully. I don’t use braid, so can’t say.. Prices are / have gone up in Japan but it’s still cheaper than buying here.

@C.Rig21 Do you own any other casting reels? I only ask as you should be able to find a bait cast reel somewhat cheap on this sites classified section or another site of your choosing and be able to find a bfs spool that will fit your purchase or an existing reel check the selection on Amazon, they have a bfs spool for $20.00 that fits a Abu Garcia Black Max gen 3. Either that or check out the offerings on Ali Express in the BFS category that have been spoken of on here by at least a few members.

A normal aluminum frame reel from a reputable manufacturer should handle mono in that diameter just fine.  The braid in that diameter will want to dig in so a shallow spool reel would be best.  A Tatula 80 from Aliexpress or Japan along with a Ray's BFS spool should do the trick for under $150.  You'll end up with two spools too so you can use both braid and non braid.  If you want even cheaper than that there are options like the SLX BFS.

The SLX MGL and Tatula 70 should also handle 6 pound mono but would worry about dig in with a 10 to 15 pound braid on those reels.

This might sound a bit asinine, but it isn't intended that way. I'm not trolling.

Shouldn't proper cast control knob adjustment eliminate line getting between the spool and frame on any reel?

I don't typically use line that light so it's possible that is why I've never ran into this issue.
