Fly fishing - what am I missing?

Fly fishing is another tool to catch fish.  Sometimes it is more effective than conventional other times it is not.  It is up to you to figure it out.  There is a learning curve but it isn't as complicated as one may think but everyone has the orvis catalog guy pictured in their head.  I primarily fly fish, probably 95% of the time and I enjoy it.  There are times when I use conventional gear too when the conditions dictate it i.e. deeper water presentations.  On moving water I will take my fly rod almsot exclusively and do just as well save some rare situations as conventional.  Catching big largemouth on a fly rod is fantastic and if you frequent areas that have lilly pads I am conviced a fly rod is the best tool for the job.  Small mountain streams or spring creeks, no doubt the fly rod is the way to go.
