New Tranx 300B or Scorpion 300MD

Featured Replies

Here’s my dilemma, I need a good bigger bait/swim bait reel to throw 3-6oz glides, huddleston’s etc. I’ve narrowed it down to the new Shimano Tranx 300B in the 7 gear ratio that has the power knob handle and the new Shimano Scorpion 300 MD. I know they are basically the same reel with different colors and handles being the only differences. I like the looks of the Tranx a little better but not sure about that power knob handle, the Scorpion is also $50-$100 cheaper. In your opinion which would be the better choice?

He bought the Scorpion and appears to like it.

Yup! Hard to beat the price and it's a nice reel. Haven't got a chance to try it out yet but it's a very solid, quality reel in hand.

How did no one respond to this. I’m curious ! Bump bump

I’m just guessing but probably because a lot of people don’t throw 6 ounce baits and can’t chime in on gear required.

JMO.

The older Ambassador round reels will do a fine job of throwing big baits.  I have a couple of the older Curado 300 EJ's that I also use.
