Cheap crankbait rod

Featured Replies

I was recently given a Walmart Gift Card, so off I went to stock up on tackle. I have been looking for an inexpensive baitcasting crankbait rod for some time now, but all of the "good" rods that are Medium Moderate Action have been way out of my impoverished budget. While at Walmart, I found a 7' medium/moderate Cherrywood casting rod. It feels like it would work very well for a crankbait rod. All my other baitcasting rods are either too heavy or too fast, or both to easily use as a crankbait rod, so I figure I would give this a go for a whole $29,00. I have not had a chance to use it yet, but I am looking forward to trying it out. Anyone else have one of these that they use as a crankbait rod? I would love to hear how it works for you.  I figure the worst-case scenario is it can be a cheap rod to keep in the truck for "impulse" fishing.......

Medium moderate should be perfectly fine.

I think it will work just fine, if I remember correctly, might be a bit prone to breakage near the tip. 👍🏻

The first rod I thought of before opening your thread was the Berkley Cherrywood.  🤣:toothy9:

There is an older gentleman in our club that uses Ugly Sticks for all of his moving baits. And he routinely kicks our butts.
