Anyone have the Poison Adrena 7’2” ML or 7’0” M

hi all,

per the title, anyone have either of them?  I have the 6’10” UL/M PA and the 6’9” zodias ML and like both.  The UL/M is my jig head minnow rod primarily and the zodias for neds. The zodias is great, but there are times when I’d like to have just a little more power.  But I don’t want more swing weight in the tip of the rod.  The PA gets great marks for light weight.  I’m thinking the medium power is probably the right choice to give me a little more flexibility over what I have but then again most of the things I’d throw on a medium spinning rod would end up on a baitcaster anyway.

In terms of uses, I’m taking about ‘big neds’, 4” finesse worms on a split shot rig or similar, 3-4” Senkos, etc.  Lighter worms Texas rigged where you need just a little more oomph to get the hook through the plastic on a hook set.  The Zodias is great for open hook and pretty good for light wire Texas rigs, but every now and then I want just a little more.

No BUT I do have the previous gen PAD267MLA which is also a medium light rated from 1/8-7/16oz and use it for similar techniques. I'd completely recommend this line and IMO the carbon fiber handle is in a completely different league than the eva on the zodias rods when it comes to sensitivity...especially for bottom contact lures.

If I was buying one of the current gen models I'd go with the 7'2" medium light fast for this type of lure. The only other rod I own that I'd even compare these to is the St. Croix Legend Xtreme but at almost half the price this series is one of the best out there in terms of bang for the buck.

The medium action one is also nice and I'd probably get one of those too if I was looking to throw heavier lures in the 1/2oz range. Bit bummed they didn't make another medium heavy spinning rod as that's the other one I have from the last gen and I really like that one too but the medium model also looks very nice and would probably make a good senko / fluke / small swimbait rod, but for bottom contact going through plastic the faster action will help a bit and the longer length won't hurt either.

I have the 7’2” ML Poison Adrena B and the 7’0” M Expride B. I’m not sure how the 7’0” PA is, but if it’s the same as the Expride then it is on the stouter side of medium. A good weightless T-rig/shakeyhead rod. The 7’2” ML PA is stouter for a ML. I use it for 1/10-1/6oz Neds and it does a great job throwing those

what line and cover are you throwing it in?  I’m planning braid to leader and 10# fluoro. My other two have 6 and 8.

is the 7’ more tip heavy than (swing weight) than the 7’2”?

Well, I’ll give a better review in a couple weeks, but first impressions of the 7’2” PA are pretty good. Total weight is about the same as my 6’9” zodias. Tip feels about the same, maybe lighter for casting weight.  Responsiveness is quicker. Total power is similar. I put a 3000 series stradic on it and it feels good. It might be a little too heavy in the garage but that’s the 7’2” and light butt. Let’s see how it fishes.

Got to fish the 7’2” ML Poison Adrena spinning rod this weekend.  I think it’s going to be a keeper for me.  I was throwing 4-5” finesse worms on a light Texas rig in light to medium grass and a soft bottom.  I spooled it with 10 lb 832 since I had some that I took off my BFS reel.  I love the bright yellow for finesse line watching.  I used 10 lb fluoro leader (sunline leader, which is the only leader I use now on spinning).  I landed a couple up to a heavy shouldered 3.5# and the rod has just the right amount of backbone for me.  You can put a good bit of that butt to work and not feel undergunned on solid fish, but at the same time I wasn’t worried about breaking the 10# leader.  I’m sure I could go to 8 and maybe 6.  Of course the stradic was everything I could want.

Hard to gauge sensitivity when you’d pulling across soft mud bottom, but all of the grass you hit was felt.  And of course you knew when the fish sucked it in.

A 1/8 weight plus a 4” senko loads it up great and will cast a mile if you want.  Next step is a finesse bait on a 1/8 head and drag it on some rocks.  I’m optimistic based on what I’ve felt so far.

A 5 lb hybrid and a couple 13” crappie confirmed that I really like this rod tonight.  The tip is super light and will fling a 1/8 oz jig head minnow, but there was plenty of butt to fight a big angry hybrid.  IMG_2204.jpeg.298375c361c9179025fc2c4e4744c54f.jpeg
