Help me crack the Code: Megabass X-Nanahan +2 Replacement Hooks

Featured Replies

Apparently the Megabass X-Nanahan +2 ( X-Nanahan is even smaller than the 110 Jr.) replacement hook model and size are a closely held secret. They are supposedly a size 8. They look bigger than any size 8 I have been able to compare them to. For instance they are 1/10" longer than these size 8 hooks and bigger all around (no to mention a bit fair bit thicker). If the Katsuage came in a size 8, I would give them a try, but I can only find these in either size 6 (like on the Vision 110) or a size 4.

The hooks in the pic (that are currently attached) are supposedly a size 8.

Why this information is so hard to come by, I cannot imagine. It's common knowledge to know that the Katsuage size 6 is the replacement for the Vision 110 and they can be relatively easily sourced. So, has anyone been able to crack the code?

The BKK Hyperlatch 70 SS in #8 is the deal!

Stock #8's are from VMC and weigh 4.4grains/.28grams each

The #8 Hyperlatch 70SS weighs 4.6grains/.30grams with a wider gap and even sharper. It is BY FAR.....the best #8 hook I have come across for the small jerkbaits.

Im surprised they went with a wire that thick.  The weight and resistance must be key to the action and buoyancy, so going with a lighter wire hook of the same weight could change the center of gravity and resistance enough to change the action.  The good news is that you have some margin of error before they sink with them being floating baits.

At a glance they look an awful lot like reg wire kamakiris, but its really tough to tell at that angle.

I know they arent Duo Nanos, but as far as matching the size and heavy wire you can get really close with them.  Nanos have a thicker wire, so they have a little weight.  As far as quality goes, they're excellent.  The best part is you can get them in odd ball sizes, with 5s and 7s available.  Duo uses a #6 on their 85sp which is slightly longer @3.3" than the 3" X Nan.  I would bet the #7s would work pretty well.

I would say try #7 Duo Nano and #8 Ichi Kamakiri.  Even if one of them doesn't fit, theyre both stupid sharp and are common sizes.  I use the #8 light wire Kamakiri as replacment on 110Jrs when I want them to have the stock slow float bouyancy and the #8 regular wire when I want it to suspend.

I haven't replaced any hooks on the +2 but I have on the regular version and the +1. I used the #8 from Ryugi. I tried both the Pierce and the Pierce Dagger. The Dagger is a lighter wire hook but its still pretty strong.  I really didn't see a whole lot of difference in diving depth. My line choice tends to influence that more.
