Cold fronts during the spawn

Featured Replies

With water temps in the high 60s and a week of 90 degree weather the fish are getting very ready to spawn. Now we are supposed to get three days of weather in 40s and 30s and possibly a frost or two. I’m not sure what will happen to these fish. Will they stick to heavy cover up shallow and burry in grass or wood? Will they pull back out to deep water? What about the fish that might already be on beds? I don’t think I’ve ever fished a temperature swing like this before at this time of year. 60 degree swing in only a couple days is something. Thanks!

Thanks Glenn, this about perfectly answered my questions. I guess the only thing I’m wondering about now is what will happen to the fish on beds?

Starting tomorrow, major drop in temp for me here in Iowa.

Low 60's even 50's.

Ugh.
