Not enough glue getting into rod repair tip

Featured Replies

I had to replace a rod tip on a rod with a very small tip section. I had a small tip

that fit perfect, but it came loose the next trip even though I used hot glue. I think the close fit of the top to the rod pushed away most of glue so it didn’t have a good hold? I still want to use this tip and not a larger size as it is a good fit. Any tips to get it to glue on when there isn’t a lot of space for the glue?

Are you using a hot glue gun or the glue made for tip replacement?

I’ve never used hot glue gun, only the little stick from Fuji that comes it the tip top assortment pack.    I have used my knife to peel off a little sliver and put it inside the tip.  Heat the tip a little, heat the glue a little and put some on the rod.    Give the tiptop and rod a little heat and slide it together.

The only tip that I’ve ever had come loose was one that was professionally replaced. Obviously the workmanship was less than “professional “ quality.

I’m using the Fuji stick. I’ll,try the little sliver up the rod tip trick. Thanks

The slivers in the tip top are the answer. Fill it. Then heat the tip top until it’s molten and insert the rod blank. Then you’re never heating the blank.
