moving line from one spinning reel to another?

Featured Replies

What's the best way to do it without adding a lot of line twist... or even reducing line twist?

As for me, I just open the bail if it's a spinning reel and pull the line off down across the yard. Keep in mind if it is spinning gear I'll be using braid. Then when I put it on another reel once I tie on to the reel and close the the bail I hold the rod out straight while pinching the line between my fingers and reel in.

Baitcasting gear is much simpler. Just pull off line from one reel down across the yard, tie on to next reel and pinch between fingers and reel in.

Hope all this makes sense. LOL!!!

Any time I've done this, I put the rod in a rod holder,  reduced spool drag, and loaded the line onto the bottom of a source spool.

What I'm asking is, I've got line spooled onto one spinning reel, but I'd like to transfer it to a different spinning reel... and I'd prefer a method I could do at my work table in the basement. I'm wondering should I just put the reels face to face, or will that cause line twist? Or should I take the spool off the first reel and have it face the same direction as the reel/spool I'm spooling to? Or should I have the spool I'm taking line from facing sidways compared to the reel I'm loading up with line.... and if so, should the line spool off the bottom, or the top (like the correct way to hang a toilet paper roll)?

It needs to going on the new reel the same direction it comes off the old one, with that being said, they should not face each other.

Knew that.  Face to face will double line twist, because you're winding in exact opposite directions.

I  spool all of the line out either behind the boat or in the back yard,  then spool it on the new reel.  This will reduce line twist.
