Rig My Rod's!

Featured Replies

I'm fishing in my first tournament (first $ tournament) this Sunday.  I have 3 rod's I'm taking and wondered what YOU would rig them up with if you had to fish with what I have.  Keep in mind I just got back into fishing a few years ago and don't have the top dollar stuff.

Here's what you have to work with.

Rod and reel #1.

Daiwa 6ft 6in  Med action rod

Daiwa 5.0:1 spinning reel

Rod and reel #2.

Shakespeare 6ft Med action Ugly stick

Shakespeare 5.2:1 spinning reel

Rod and reel #3

Shakespeare 6ft Med action one piece rod

Shakespeare 5.1:1 Exterra bait caster

Let me know what you would take with you.   i.e. line sellection, bait sellection ect.

Depends on the size of the reel and what it can handle and the condition of the water with what color or type of line you go with. Off the top of my head i would probably go with somewhere between 10 and 12 on the baitcaster and on the spinning reels look at the spool and choose the highest lb test the reel is rated for or the next size down from that, I would choose clear line if the water is clear, or low vis green if the water is stained muddy or there is low visibility in the water, with both cases you can use flourocarbon line. As far as baits go i would think about what you have confidence in on the body of water you are fishing and start with with that, but never go into the tournament thinking exactly what baits you are going to throw keep an open mind and once you start fishing let the fish tell you what to throw.

Hope this helps and GOOD LUCK!

what kind of lake are you fishing?  is the water stained, clear???  is there flooded timber?  weed beds??? that all determines what  you rig up with... also what is the weather gonna be like???  cloudy, bright blue bird skies???

If you are fishing around Sedalia you are probably in cold water because it is only in the mid to upper 40s on Stockton.

I'd be thinking tubes, grubs, jigs, maybe some jerk baits depending on water, weather and the guy in the other end of the boat.

Weather say's high of 61 some rain.  :-/  I should be able to get more info later.  Launch time 9am weigh in at 1 pm.
