Ugly Stik Catfish Combo for Punching/Froggin?

Featured Replies

Would it be crazy to use my Medium Heavy Ugly Stik Cat Combo for froggin and fishing. I a lot of overgrown areas I can fish from the bank and I know they say get a heavy Bass rod and an 8:1 Baitcasting reel and the works. But could this be a solid setup for your everyday budget fisherman? 50-65 lbs braid on it.

Ugly Stik are heavy weight rods over 8 oz in lieu of Heavy Power bass rods that weigh under 5 oz.

If that’s a glass rod it may be a little soft, nonetheless since you’re asking, just give it a try and see. Experience is the best teacher..

Crazy? No

Are there better choices? Yes

In my opinion, The choices you gave on your previous post will do you better just for the weight savings alone

Ugly Stik is a bit soggy in the tip for my tastes, but should work fine.
