Hello BR, I recently got a real boarlt.  It works well enough, except the trolling motor will turn on its own when I take my foot off the pedal.  Its a 70lb thrust 24v Minnkota Maxxum.  A bit of googling did nothing to alleviate my confusion.  Do any of you fine folks know if there's something I can adjust?  Or fix?

I assume you have it on constant power.  Most every trolling motor on the market will tork to the right  it you lift your foot.  Take it off constant or keep your foot on it.  

I don't know much about MinnKotas, but my MotorGuide does that when the switch under the foot pedal gets shorted or goes bad.  MotorGuide used a flimsy rubber boot over a pressure switch.   The boot gets holes and rain water inevitably gets in the switch.  My motor is 3 years old and I have replaced the boot twice and the switch twice.

I looked into your type of motor a bit, and it appears you have the same kind of switch.  Take off the pedal and check for corrosion and or water in and around the switch.  See if the runaway motor stops when you disconnect one of the wires on that switch.   A little dielectric grease on all TM pedal contacts can help reduce corrosion and shorts
