Why a fluorobarbon leader?

Featured Replies

I'm playing with #30 power pro this year on a baitcaster and would like a a few feet of clear leader.  Most of the posts suggest a fluorocarbon leader vs regular mono.  Is the fluoro more abrasion proof or is there some other reason to use it?  First, gotta master the uni-uni knot.  I lose my patience with this knot (so far) but I have to learn it.   :)

yes, fluoro is alot more abrasion resistent and more sensitive, so a braid and flouro combination is really sensitive.  But if your going to use it on a c-rig I'd go with mono so it help the plastic float up a little.

I always use fluoro. leader when fishing with braid line or when using spinning gear for trout.  It has little stretch and a high breaking point.  It is much less visable than mono but this serves as a confidence factor more than anything else, unless you fish extremely clear water.  I think you'll be happy with a good flouro. line such as Seaguar.
