Stretch, Fluorocarbon VS Copolymer?

Featured Replies

I was wondering what the stretch of the two lines would be?  Or are the two very close in stretch? And are the two the same for sensitivity?  :-/ :-/ :-? :-?

From all the research I have read, both lines have about the same amount of stretch with the fluoro. having a bit more. As far as sensitivity, the fluorocarbon is denser and therefore transmits vibrations better.

From grade 11 chemistry mono 2 molcules lots of stretchand absorbes water,

copoylmer is a 3 molcule product less stretch heavy or more dense lesss water obsorbes

,flouro is a 4 molcule product very little stretch even more dense and sinks almost no water absorb..

Power pro braid has no stretch and floats

Bassmaster has an article in the latest issue starting on page 73 (which I don't have in front of me because I'm at work), but they quote somebody who says that Fluorocarbon actually stretches more than mono but is more sensitive due to its density.  I've never heard this and I am a little skeptical.  I know Fluoro is more sensitive than mono but I've always understood it stretched much less.  Garnet's description is right in line with what I understood about fishing lines.

So change mono regularly because of it's makeup 2 molcule.

But copoylmers and flouro do not need to change nears as much dencer and tougher. The line companys will not inform you of this for money reasons.

Power Pro is 10x better than flouro for degradation it's also a fact that the half life of these products are over 300 years so throw then in the garbage not the lake.

Line stretch, test for your self, don't guess. Take your lines mono or fluoro, a stake, tape measure, fish pull scale and some tape. Drive the stake well into the ground and wrap the test line around it several wraps and secure with tape to the stake, this eliminates any knots. Walk out 20' from the stake and wrap the line around the pull scale staying close to the 20' mark when the line is snug with no weight applied. Now walk slowy backwards untill the line reachs 1lb. from its breaking strength. I have never tested either line (of any brand) that did not have at least 20% to 30% strecth.

Not a real sientific test but it sure shocked me the first time I tried it.
