Gear Ratio for Tatu 200L?

Featured Replies

I am interested in getting a new reel for my St. Croix Victory Rod. The rod I own is the sb ranger swimbait rod 3/4-3 oz and 7' 10" heavy fast. I have settled into the Diawa tatula 2025. I like the line capacity, light weight and smaller profile. I am trying to decide if the 6.3:1 or 7.3:1 reel would be better for a first swimbait reel. The 6.3 has an inches per turn around 29.4 inches per turn and the 7.3 has 34.3 inches per turn. THis reel will be a general purpose first swimbait/glide bait rod/reel.

Another factor that might help yall decide...I can get the 7.3:1 locally for $180 and the 6.3:1 Ill have to order for $199 or $229 depending on what i can find.

I think it's a preference thing. My older model tat 200 is on a flipping/soft swimmer stick and I just work the 7.3:1 slower on the retrieve. It is near the limit of what I'm comfortable with, but works great. With the larger handles I don't notice any torque or fatigue issues. I'd save the money.

Either one of those will work fine. I use the previous gen Tatula 200 in 7.3 on one of my swimbait rods. No problem slowing down when I have to and I prefer the higher speed when chopping glides. I'd probably be just as happy with the 6.3 though.

I have 3 or 4 of the previous gen 200s and all are 6.3. The 6.3 is gonna be better for wakes and cranks generally. But if I was using it for everything I’d honestly go 7.3 I think. For the size wakes you will be throwing it’ll be fine. Once you step up to a 300 size and big rod for stuff over 3oz, then I’d drop down to a 6.3
