Crank bait and drop shot

Featured Replies

I was wondering what a good set up would be for a all around crank bait rod and the model of the drop shot  the mag light version or the mag medium version. any info would help tons

thanks!!

;D

I recently purchased a Loomis crankbait rod, 7' medium action (I forget the model # but there aren't many dedicated crankbait rods made by loomis so it shouldn't be hard to figure out) and I matched it with a new Curado 100 series and boy is it amazing.  I can cast easily 50 yards and the sensitivity is phenomenal.  The rod is very light and matches up great with the small curado, I am sure that a Chronarch MG would work great too.  Whatever you do be sure to get a lighter reel to match with the crankbait rod for casting distance, it makes a huge difference.

CBR843.

have the rod and love it. I think some guys prefer the 845, but I fish a lot of 1/4 cranks and traps...I think the 845 might be a little stiff to load up properly with smaller baits....

Like Rockville said, get a lightweight reel to match up to it. I have fished my buddy's CBR 843 with a Curado 200 and it and the balance was terrible.....

Depends on the size of the crankbaits.  if you fish smaller crankbaits, 1/4 oz or less, try the 841 with a TD-Z.  Fantastic rod!

For larger cranks the 843 works great with the same reel.  845 is nice, but a bit heavy in my opinion.

I'm eventually goign to buy two of them but for know you think the 843 would be good for a all around one then buy the 841 or should i but he 841 first!! i will def get the zillion its amazing!!! ;D ;D ;D

I'd consider both the CBR843 and 783. I like the shorter rod for topwaters and cranks, while the longer rod would get you longer casts. I'm not sure  the Zillion would be the best reel for cranking, I think they are pretty fast retrieves. Although sometimes I reel faster with rat-l-traps, maybe the crankbait fisherman could tell you more. My main cranking reel is a 5.1:1 Curado, but I know some guys like an even slower retrieve.
