Split Ring Size/Type to Attach Spinnerbait Blade to Swivel?

Featured Replies

I was getting the tarnish off my spinnerbaits and on one of them the split ring attaching the blade to the swivel was looking a little oval.

On another bait I had to replace the split ring and blade as it got cast off several years ago. It was a subpar split ring and didn't notice until it was too late. I know the replacement for that one is oversized cause it just barely fit on and is sitting on the swivel in the split ring gap.

It seems like some of the split rings that attach the blades to the swivels are a fine wire and will spin through the small swivel holes.

Idk..in thinking while typing this I can either cannibalize off a small crank or might have something in my broken lures.

Still.... curious as to what brand and size/type of split rings you guys use when building spinnerbaits.

Thanks

I use small thin wire splits rings that I buy in bulk from a lure parts company. They don't have to be strong because they just hold a blade, not a fish like a treble hook. I want the lightest possible so the blade spins freely. Split rings are also available at tackle shops.

You can loose blades if the gap between the end of the wire is too big. I fill that gap with UV cement when using a small split ring. When you use a bigger, thicker split ring, it's better to put the blade on first then the swivel. Then the swivel can sit in the gap.
