BFS spool for Daiwa Fuego CT

Featured Replies

I was thinking about trying BFS , but the only fishing i do that is even close to finesse is a shaky head. Some might not even claim a 1/8 shaky head is worthy of the BFS label. Its the only reason I have one spin rod on my deck. I thought that of all the finesse type things to fish, the shaky head would be the easiest and seem natural to try on baitcasting gear.

Since I do not use anything else I dont need to go crazy spending money trying to swap to BFS. So I had a spare Daiwa Fuego CT sitting around and figured Id look for a way to possibly convert it to do shaky head duty and not take a spin rod. I have searched and read several threads and comments on a couple possibilities, but the issue is most are a couple/few years old and I cant find the items that were brought up. A couple big ones I saw were Ray's Studio and Roro. Unfortunately , I do not see those spools in stock anywhere on the web. So figured I would ask you guys for some alternate places or brands to consider. If you think that at the weight I fish a shaky at most times could be accomplished with another spool type I would listen to that advice as well. I just want to be able to throw a 1/8 with a small trick worm/roboworm far enough with a bit more control than a spin rig.

Also check on Tatula CT spools....they're identical to Fuego CT...only difference between the reels is the T-Wing on the Tatula....

Insert "fuego ct casting reel bfs spool options" into your favorite search engine. It's a 34mm spool. I assume most 34mm Daiwa spools would work...BUT...I don't ever tinker with my reels, so someone else can give you a better idea of which spools will work. Such as bulldogg1935. PhishLI, etc.

From AI Overview: The Fuego CT uses a 34mm spool, compatible with aftermarket spools for the Tatula CT, Tatula 100, and 2020 Tatula Elite.

I got this: https://www.ebay.com/itm/165725489128

EDIT: When I said "I got this" I meant I got it with the search. I got my 34mm finesse spool from Walmart...believe it or not. lol

I can attest, as I know others can here as well, that SDS is great to do business with.

For what you’re wanting to cast, an aftermarket spool is the way to go, imo.

My bfs paperweight errrr reel is a Fuego CT with a Ray's Studio spool. Works well, should probably use it more.

I went with an SDS light spool on my Fuego when I wanted to dip my feet in the bfs water. Here’s some food for thought…

I went with the SDS spool called “long cast” or “hyper cast” (something of the sort). It’s bfs but not as crazy fragile as that honeycomb model above. I don’t think those super-lite models offer much beyond looking cool. Maybe there is some supposed benefit where you could throw ultra light lures on them?

But here’s the thing - the brakes on your Fuego are going to keep you from ever getting true bfs performance. If you’re sticking to your shakeyhead, you’ll be fine, but if you start to say things like “ooo those karashi’s I keep hearing about sound nice” then look to your spinning rod or a purpose made bfs reel/rod.

I think you should try the spool. It will work for your use case.

Edit: ill double check tonight - I think I have an extra SDS spool you can try/have.

Thanks for all the replies , it stinks you cant find Ray's or Roro spools anymore.

I would consider trying the SDS , that was sort of the point, to look for a cheap option that if it did not work I was not out too much time nor cash. And if it turns out I like it , I could go down that path further and drop more money to get quality gear. I was eying the Daiwa BF70 Tatula and the Daiwa PX BF70, but thought I cant justify spending $300 on a reel I might hate or never use for this sole purpose.

I did end up having the extra SDS spool. Shoot me a dm and I’ll get it out to you. It’s a cool bit of kit.
