Shimano Drag Spring Washers

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I was swapping gears on a Shimano Antares and have two questions

  1. How do I orient the two drag spring washers? Total brain fart here. Do they fit together - like a stack of bowls, or a stack of lids - or do they fit opposite of each other - like a bowl with a lid on top?

  2. What grease should I use on the gears?

Thanks!

Best photo I have of bellville spring washers, the concave sides face each other to make the spring as tall as possible.

For gears, you want medium to high viscosity grease.

Thanks! This worked like a charm!

Best orientation is ( ) it’s not as critical as sometimes made out. I prefer marine grease for lubrication and water repelling. Cals and Superlube are other good choices.
